[KB] Particular citation question

Hi all! Forgive me for the incredibly specific question. I'm wrapping up
citations for my dissertation and am a bit hung up on how inconsistently
the University of California Press versions refer to themselves ("3rd
Edition," "Revised Paperback Edition," "California Edition," most
prominently.) Counter-Statement is the one that's really throwing me, since
apparently there were two versions of the third edition (paperback, through
UCP, and hardbound elsewhere). In the spirit of Chicago style I'm guessing
I'm best off prioritizing consistency over absolute accuracy and am leaning
towards "California edition" for the paperback UCP I cited, despite them
not using that particular language there, but I'm just wondering if there's
ever been consensus or preference from you experts on how to accurately AND
cleanly cite? It's redundant when publisher information is included, too—a
further annoyance! Thoughts from sympathetic editors or fellow pedants
welcome. ;) I have to imagine at least one of you has dealt with this
before!
