[KB] Burke panel at ISHR 2024

Dear colleagues,


I am putting together a Burke panel for the Twenty-Fourth Biennial Conference of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (ISHR), to be held here in Vancouver, BC, July 23-26, 2024. Since the conference topic is "Continuity and Change in the History of Rhetoric," I'd like to propose a panel that discusses Burke's Permanence and Change, particularly in terms of its historical relation to previous and subsequent work in rhetoric. What are the text's important continuities and discontinuities with historical works of rhetoric, and/or how did P&C influence the field going forward, particularly in terms of rhetorical conceptions of continuity and change?


If you're interested in being part of this panel, please send me an email by March 31 with a paper proposal of at most 100 words. The submission deadline for the conference itself is May 15, 2023, so there will be time to formalize and elaborate on things later once we get a sense of what everyone wants to speak to. If I receive more than 4 paper proposals, I will select the 4 that seem to best form a coherent panel.
