<span style="margin:0px;font-size:12pt">I arranged for Burke to lecture at Oregon State on his birthday in 1983. I asked him what it was like to share a birthday with Marx. He immediately informed me that May 5 is also Kierkegaard's birthday, then joked that
it was all providential: Marx explains how ideas come from below, Kierkegaard explains how they come from above, and Burke explains what they do when they get here regardless of where they come from.</span></div>

May 5, 1983. K.B." Farther down, he added "Thanks for a great time, K. B."</div>
