Hello, fellow Burkeans—

I, too, want to add my voice to the chorus of those remembering Ed Appel, and what he meant to Burke studies and the KBS. I first met Ed as a graduate student, and ever since I have associated him with our time together at the KBS. His voice at our sessions, and in our informal gatherings, will be sorely missed. Folks are currently working on putting together a panel remembering both Ed and Jim Chesebro for the upcoming Triennial.

In terms of the Triennial, Damien and I have received a great set of submissions from folks, both panels and papers, but are eager to expand our conversations further. As a result, we have extended the deadline for submissions to February 17. If you haven’t submitted to the conference, please consider sending in your proposal by the due date. Or, if you have friends and colleagues who haven’t—but should!—submit to the conference, then please do pass on the word to them!

The event promises to be a good few days, including speakers as well as the return of the KBS seminars. Please join our collective effort to envision the future of Burke studies. And, of course, the kicker: proposals are accepted for papers and panels, so no need to have a completed paper.

All the info you would need is on the KBS page, including dates, location, etc: https://www.kbjournal.org/kbs2020

To submit, here’s the link: https://wfi.submittable.com/submit/149063/submit-to-the-11th-kenneth-burke-society-triennial-kenneth-burke-in-20-20

Please do let me, or Damien, know if you have questions!

Best wishes,

Bryan
