[KB] Scraped Plate

Dear Burkelers:

I'm teaching identification in my Burke seminar today and I wondered
whether Burke's reference in "The Identifying Nature of Property" to the
"Sign of the Scraped Plate" as a reference to post-WWII humanitarian aid
the US sent to Europe was a common phrase ("scraped plate") or his own
peculiar phrase. "Scraped," I assume, means eating every morsel that's
offered? Or something else?

Cheers,

Clarke
