The origin of language belongs to the vast realm of contingency, not susceptible to theoretical explanation. There can only be 'interesting' SPECULATIONS. No knowledge is possible.
PROBABLY, the brain _capable _ of inventing language existed for a couple hundred thousand years before language actually became common. The most interesting speculation I've come across is that probably children invented language a number of times before it 'caught on' among adults.
